SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT AND PATTON MEDIA GROUP LAUNCH MONUMENTAL PICTURES

Joint Venture Will Produce Russian Language Films Culver City, CA, February 02, 2006 – Sony Pictures Entertainment and the Patton Media Group announced today the launch of Monumental Pictures, which will produce and arrange distribution of Russian language films in Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and Mongolia.

"Russia and its neighbors comprise one of the most exciting and promising places to do business in the entertainment world, and we're proud to be teamed with the Patton Media Group to help bring films to audiences throughout the region," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sony Pictures.

"We're creating Monumental Pictures because we recognize the great strides being made in Russian motion picture production, with the Russian theatrical film market growing at an annual rate of over 30%, and locally produced Russian language product now accounting for about one-third of the total" said Lynton. "I believe we can help take this dynamic business to a whole new level in the coming months and years. There is tremendous opportunity for growth, and we're poised to fulfill the rising demand for quality entertainment in Russia, the Ukraine, the CIS, and Mongolia."

Sony Pictures' participation in the joint venture will be through its motion picture production and distribution unit, Columbia Pictures.

Russia-based Patton Media Group, in which Shari Redstone, Michael Schlicht and Paul Heth are partners, will oversee Monumental Pictures in Moscow.

Shari Redstone, president of National Amusements and chair of Russian exhibitor Rising Star Media (RSM), sees this venture as a logical extension of her groundbreaking work in Russia over the past 5 years with Paul Heth. Through RSM, Redstone and Heth have pioneered the development of Russia's first luxury multiplex theaters under the Kinostar brand. Today, Kinostar is Russia 's leading international standard exhibitor with plans for continuing expansion in major sites in Russia and St. Petersburg.

"Having made a substantial commitment to the development of film exhibition in Russian, we have been gratified by the tremendous response of Russian consumers to Kinostar's Cinema de lux concept. It is now very exciting to partner with Michael Lynton and Sony in developing Russian motion picture production, which we view as not only important for the Russian market but also as an important source of great film product for worldwide distribution" said Redstone.

"Shari, Michael and I are very grateful for this opportunity to work with Sony Pictures and its Columbia Pictures unit," said Heth. "We know we can benefit from their tremendous international experience in developing compelling films for local and regional audiences." Heth's groundbreaking work in Moscow during the 1990's, before he formed RSM with Redstone, is widely credited with revitalizing the Russian theatrical exhibition sector.

"We are looking forward to expanding our longstanding ties with Russian directors and producers, whom we believe to be among the most imaginative and creative filmmakers anywhere in the world," said Schlicht, who is General Director of Russia's leading theatrical and home entertainment distribution company, Gemini Films, which has released some of the most successful Russian films in recent history, including "Day Watch," "Night Watch," "Turkish Gambit" and "9th Company."
